Many years ago when my oldest son was in Kindergarten, I sent out an invitation to every single mom whose child was in that class and invited them over to my house for coffee. Everyone brought their kids and treats. Creating community whether it be your neighbors, the parents from your kid’s soccer team, or the girls at the office, is good for the heart and the soul. When you are part of a community, you are never alone. As human beings, we need each other. You don’t have to be best friends, but it is nice to gather in a group from time to time to get some girl talk in and learn from one another. I have always loved joining groups too such as book clubs, writing groups, you name it. It got me out of the house and it got my brain stimulated. Once upon a time I was a very shy person. But I challenged myself a little at a time to know people. Creating a book club is an incredible way to get to know others. To hold a book, to gather, to eat and to talk is simply heaven to me. I hope you reach out to the people around you, whether you are shy or social and get something going. Being a Fire Wife can be lonely if you let it be – however, making the choice to get to know other people is always a good one.
